South West Trains urged to think again says Steve Brine.

Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Winchester Steve Brine has said it "beggars belief" that train passengers face a big hike in fares from this May.

Steve says; “Coming just a matter of months after price increases of nearly 20% at station car parks, it beggars belief that South West Trains are now pushing up fares by a similar amount.  They have a monopoly on most services out of Winchester and with any monopoly comes a degree of responsibility to protect the traveling public.

"At a time when we are trying to encourage people out of their cars and onto the railways, this is unhelpful to say the very least.

"For a family of four to have a day out in London, it is already going to cost them just short of £70 for the train fare alone – and that is before this 20% fare increase.  I would ask South West Trains to think again”.
