There is a new generation of Conservatives in Winchester, meet them here ...

The winds of change are hitting Winchester conservatives this Spring, as a new generation of young, energetic politicians come to the fore.

While David Cameron (40) ventures into not so traditional territory as party leader, so things are changing locally.

The party has an energetic new Parliamentary Candidate in Steve Brine (33) who is hoping to replace outgoing Liberal MP Mark Oaten at the next General Election.  Steve, who lives in the heart of the constituency with his wife Susie has already been very vocal on the subject of the Royal Hampshire county Hospital.  Steve also organised in February a packed showing of Al Gore's Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth at The Screen Cinema.

Also coming through as elections loom for Winchester City Council are a new wave of young councillors and candidates; Hampshire County Council employee Abdul Kayum (31) is aiming to represent Winchester's cosmopolitan City Centre Ward of St Barts, local estate agent Rob Ducker (31) will be standing in St Lukes, local barrister Robert Ducket (28) is standing in St Pauls and local businessman Mike Lovegrove is standing in St Johns.

Steve says; "It really is very exciting for us in Winchester after some pretty difficult years.  The next General Election here is wide open and I am determined to give people a positive choice to vote for a local guy who is part of a new Conservative generation when the time comes.

"What's even more encouraging is the young people joining us locally and wanting to stand for council - they are young energetic and hungry to represent the communities they grew up in.

Steve Brine and the new generation are pictured above.
