Steve Brine slams 'terrible decision' to ignore elected councillors and give Vodafone the green-light for a new 3G mast in Chandler's Ford.
The Prospective MP for Winchester & Chandler’s Ford was speaking after an appeal to the government planning inspector reversed two ‘no’ votes from the Chandler’s Ford & Hiltingbury Local Area Committee.
Vodafone had applied to erect a 14m 3G phone mast and associated equipment outside the Vauxhall garage on the junction of Leigh Road and Bournemouth Road in Chandler's Ford.
He said; "Vodafone are very busy at the moment right across the area with the erection of 3G masts we are supposed to need. This is a terrible decision which I fear has more to do with matching their competitors than serving this community.
"What makes it worse is a situation where elected representatives say a clear no and the inspector just carries on regardless. Any incoming Conservative Government will put an end to this deeply damaging second guessing by unelected bureaucrats."
Residents concern centred around health fears but above all the citing of a new mast and associated support equipment on a busy and already dangerous road junction just off the M3 motorway.
