The Hiltingbury Community Association, which has worked for nearly ten years to make the new centre a reality, welcomed local people and councillors along with the Mayor of Eastleigh to cut the ribbon on phase one of its new community facility.  The opening, undeterred by the unseasonal weather, took place at lunchtime to the delight of the local community.

Prospective MP for Chandler’s Ford, Steve Brine, was also there with his wife Susie and daughter Emily.  He said; “I know how hard HCA Chairman Mike Hughes and his cross-party team have worked to make this day a reality and I am full of admiration for them all.  We wouldn’t have missed today for the world and Emily certainly tried out as much as she could of the brand new facilities.  I look forward to working with local people, including raising some further funds at the Hiltingbury Extravaganza later this year, to get phase-two built and open for business.  In these days of recession and a seemingly constant stream of bad news, it was great to see such a positive gathering today.”

When complete (phase-one and phase-two) the centre will comprise a large hall with flexible staging and seating for 200 people, badminton court & short-mat indoor bowls.  A small hall with some specific features for young children which will become the new home for the incumbent preschool groups currently using the upstairs room in the pavilion, a meeting room with kitchens, food preparation and serving facilities and toilets and limited changing rooms.  There will also be a community office where the HCA hopes to employ a centre administrator.
