Easton Fete enjoys huge turnout and wall-to-wall sunshine as Steve Brine opens the show and village hall sees its last event.

The village of Easton, between Alresford and Winchester, held its traditional Summer Fete this afternoon (Monday 31 August 2009) and enjoyed what could prove to be the last hurrah of Summer.

Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine, who lives in the village with his young family, opened the annual event at 2pm as bright sunshine graced the cricket pitch and hundreds of local people looking for some good old-fashioned English country fun.

This year’s fete will be the last to be held in and around Easton Village Hall; the existing building will be demolished from next Monday (7 September 2009) to make way for a new building.  The project has been funded by the Easton Challenge; a local fundraising effort that will provide a new home for village events and the well-known Easton & Martyr Worthy Cricket Club.

Funds from the 2009 fete are still being counted but organisers expect the event to raise just in excess of £6,000.
