Residents in St Cross have learnt a controversial phone mast will not go ahead.

As widely reported in the local area, and on this website, The Trustees of St Cross have been in discussion with New Edge Telecommunications (NET) since mid-2008 about the possible erection of a 3G mast on the church at St Cross Hospital.

NET were acting on behalf of the Mobile Phone Service Provider O2 who have recently entered into a mast-sharing agreement with Vodafone.

Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine said; “I understand that negotiations with NET are now concluded and the proposed mast installation at St Cross will not be going ahead.  This has been a long running and controversial issue which has stirred strong emotions in the local community.  I look forward to working with the Trustees as Prospective MP, and maybe as MP in the future, to ensure this much-loved part of Winchester survives and indeed thrives for many years to come.”
