Residents in Hiltingbury demand action over neglected green space to deal with rats invading local homes.

People living near the northern end of Hiltingbury Lakes have joined forces to press Eastleigh Borough Council to restore a neglected area to its former well-managed glory.

Residents in the Malcolm Close area say years of neglect have turned a piece of land behind their homes into a perfect breeding ground for rats and many homes are being invaded by the vermin all year round.

Cllr John Caldwell & Prospective MP Steve Brine met with residents at the site this week. Cllr Caldwell said; “Complacency about rats at Hiltingbury Lakes is not an option and I will be following this up on behalf of local residents.”

Prospective Conservative MP, Steve Brine added; “For too long, Eastleigh Borough Council have failed to maintain what used to be a beautiful amenity area here, and allowed the rats to multiply out of control.  Local residents have had enough and I, together with Cllr Caldwell, fully support the residents in their quest for swift action and will be pro-actively monitoring developments closely.”
