Prospective Winchester MP Steve Brine took part in a question time event at the Dever Society's AGM.

The Dever Society's Annual General Meeting was held on Monday 1st March 2010 in the Northbrook Hall, Micheldever.

Immediately after the AGM the BBC’s Deputy Political Editor James Landale chaired an election debate entitled Planning and the countryside featuring Prospective Conservative MP, Steve Brine and his Labour / Liberal Democrat opponents.

Steve Brine said; “As a member of the Dever Society I was thrilled to be asked to take part.  The Conservative party’s commitment to the countryside and truly devolved planning and development policy is among the strongest parts of our platform for Government and I enjoyed the chance to explain our ideas to those who came along.

“Our plans for a radical decentralisation of the planning rules seem to have really struck a chord, and have obviously deeply upset my Labour opponent, which is understandable because they promise to overturn more than a decade of this Government’s bossy, centrally driven housing policy which has so clearly failed.

“As ever, Dever Society members were highly informed and this led to a really good discussion and debate on issues ranging from development, eco-towns and farming to badger culling/Bovine TB, fox-hunting and even a proposal to move British Summer time.  I really hope people attending enjoyed the event.”
