Steve Brine joined the Mayor of Winchester starting the Diesel Engine and cutting a special birthday cake. Attending the event with his family at Sunday lunchtime, Steve helped to mark 75 years of diesel pumping in Twyford by joining Cllr Richard Izard in starting one of the large diesel pumping engines.
Speaking after the Hazeley Road event, Steve said: “It’s remarkable to think that less than a lifetime ago steam power was the norm and this was a new technology back in 1935. We had a lovely time here, and it’s just another example of the fascinating history that our area holds. I know there are lots of events coming up here over the summer, and I’d really recommend people come and take a look.”
