Steve Brine has reacted with disappointment on learning that the creche at River Park Leisure Centre is set to close on Thursday 21st October.

A number of local parents contacted Mr Brine asking him to raise the matter with Winchester City Council, who responded saying that demand for the service was not high and they could not fill a vacant position.

Steve said: “Although I understand the reasons behind the council’s decision, it is very disappointing for those parents who use the service. From a personal perspective, I can really appreciate how hard it is arranging childcare, and while we are meant to be promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, situations like this do nothing to help people who want to maintain their fitness.”

“I have had a number of crèche-users contact me on this, and I would urge the city council to re-advertise the position and try once again to keep this valuable service open.”
