Winchester MP Steve Brine recently met two local ladies with a "fabulous" idea to help parents and children share the secrets of their best days out.
50 Fabulously Fun Family Days Out is a comprehensive guide to family days out in and around Hampshire, all of which are affordable or free.
Compiled by local families, it gives insider knowledge on solutions to potential problems, such as when it is best to visit, what to take and what to expect upon arrival.
Creator Louise Turner said: “This is an A5 book that easily fits on your bag or the car. It has full page entries with all the details, and includes quotes from the children who chose the locations.
Jo Fowle added: “Importantly, there isn’t any bias from advertising, and is ultimately about giving families quality time to spend together.”
The book is being produced by Compton School Association, the charity set up to fundraise for Compton All Saints Primary School and has received support from Hampshire County Council.
Steve said: “As a parent, the moment I heard about this I knew it was a great idea. We all lead extremely busy lives, and this really ticks all the boxes on cost, supporting the local area, ease of use and most important, giving us the time to spend having fun with the kids.
“I’m delighted to help Louise and Jo promote their venture, and I am sure it will be a roaring success.”
The book will be offered for sale via all Winchester District & Eastleigh primary schools, and collaborating schools will be able to share in the profits from their own sales. It will also be available in Winchester city centre on 14th May & 9th July 2011, through the NCT and from children’s centres across the county.
