The heavens opened as the fete got underway but the crowds were undeterred and happily spent their money to raise funds for local churches and local charities in King Worthy. Families even sat and enjoyed the Punch and Judy show!
Revd Alan Gordon from St Mary's in KW introduced Steve, watched on by Diana Jackson who is the Chairperson of the Fete Committee. Dozens of local organisations took part including the Scouts, Neighbourhood Watch, KW Primary School, KW Parish Council, Worthys Festival, The Worthy Players and the W.I.
Writing in the fete programme, Steve said; "One of the great things about being an MP is the opportunity to meet so many local people. I love the Summer fetes and we do them with real style and fun here in Winchester. I've brought the family to the Worthies Village and Church Fete before, and while Emily remembers how much fun it was last year, this is young William's first time!
"I know how hard so many people work over many months to make this fete a success, and I congratulate them all for their efforts."
Speaking after the event he added; "A brilliant afternoon - we didn't even notice the rain. Kings Worthy did itself proud today, I was honoured to be asked to open the event and will be back next year whatever the weather!"
