Nick Gibb, Minister for Schools, visited staff and students at Thornden, in Chandler's Ford, on Thursday 23rd February with local MP Steve Brine.

As well as taking a tour of the school, dropping into a number of lessons and extra-curricular activities, Mr Gibb was able to discuss a number of issues in depth with headteacher Dr Robert Sykes, including Academy finance, bureaucracy and Advanced Skills Teachers.

Steve said: "Thornden is an outstanding school, and I loved taking a tour of various classes- even Maths! There is a great atmosphere at the school, and there is so much going on, in particular the Yearbook production session we dropped into, which is certainly head and shoulders above the time I was at school.

"Seriously, there were important matters to discuss, and I know the time at the new Academy-status school was extremely well-spent."
