Steve Brine joined a host of dignitaries at the opening of the Diamond Jubilee Garden at Fryern Community Centre on Friday 16th March.

Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant, Dame Mary Fagan, did the honours at the garden, which was project managed by local councillor Mike Hughes and involved children from Fryern Infant School.

The morning started at the school, where the children sang a special song commemorating the Diamond Jubilee, which marks 60 years on the throne for Queen Elizabeth II.

The group then moved to the garden itself, and where a special flag was also hoisted to celebrate the occasion.

Steve said: "It was so great to see such genuine warmth for the Queen, and see how much appreciation there is for all the work she has carried out over 60 years on the throne.

"As Dame Mary Fagan herself said, we will not see another Diamond Jubilee in our lifetimes, and this is the start of a very special year."
