Steve Brine attended the annual Winchester Business Excellence Awards at the Guildhall on Friday 15th June, as the business community recognised local commerce.

With former MP and television personality Gyles Brandreth speaking, the black tie event was attended by over 300 guests.

A range of awards were up for grabs, and Penyards Property Management scopped the prestigious Business of the Year award. Anne McDonald of Wessex Conference Centre won Employee of the Year, while Greens Restaurant and Bar won the award for Service Excellence.

Also celebrating were Parchment Jewellers, Box-it Group and Bangkok Brasserie, who won the Small Business, Rural Business and BID Member of the Year awards respectively.

There was also a special award for the University of Winchester, which won the Eco Business of the Year gong, and Charlie Sapey of Intrgr8 Dance walked away with Entrepreneur of the Year.

Speaking afterwards, Steve said: "Another stunning event showing the strength and depth of Winchester's business economy. It was a good reminder of the fact, in spite of so much negative tone from the media and especially the BBC, that there are success stories in these tough times.

"Our local businesses are working harder than ever and this event was a chance to show that off. Well done to the Chamber and the BiD for yet again organising a hugely successful awards night."
