The Trinity Centre has been awarded a National Lottery grant of £218,000 to support their continued work in the city, with the added bonus they will be able to open on Saturdays.

Currently, Trinity is supported by donations and grants, including £99,000 from Winchester City Council, and this boost to the Durngate team, who deal with between 50-65 people on an average daily basis, has been warmly welcomed.

Michelle Gardner, manager, said: "The grant is really important because there's nowhere else for rough sleepers to go during the weekend at the moment.

"This will enable them to have a hot meal, access to laundry facilities, and also somewhere to get in from the cold during the winter."

Local MP Steve Brine has been a long time supporter of Trinity, and even took Iain Duncan Smith to visit back in 2010. He said: "I'm delighted that Trinity has been successful here. It is a tremendous asset to our city, and extremely well-led in tough times. I know without hesitation they will put this money to very good use and how much it is needed right now in Winchester."
