Thousands of local residents lined the streets of Winchester and Kings Worthy on Wednesday 11th July as the Olympic Torch relay passed through Hampshire.

The torch entered the area through Kings Worthy before making its way along Worthy Lane and Hyde Street, before travelling down North Walls and then making its way up the High Street on its way out of the city along Andover Road on its way to Salisbury.

Joining the vast crowds, who had been assembling for hours, was local MP Steve Brine, who dashed down from London to take in the occasion with his family, before dashing back to Westminster for a series of Parliamentary engagements.

He said: "This was an absolutely unforgettable occasion and the city was jam-packed this afternoon. We were lucky enough to get a vantage point in The Square, and the excitement was palpable.

"I'm sure that the thousands of people who saw the torch will never forget the experience, and I would also like to pay tribute to local organisers who ensured the event went without a hitch."
