MP looks for 'common sense' mail solution

Steve Brine has spoken out on behalf of South Wonston residents, after villagers demanded Royal Mail return to leaving undelivered parcels at the local post office.

Royal Mail has started taking parcels and signed-for items back to the main sorting office in Winnall, leaving residents with a 12-mile round trek to collect their mail.

Steve was contacted by a number of residents on the issue, and continues to liaise closely with popular local councillor Stephen Godfrey. He said:"I can understand Royal Mail trying out new ideas and I suppose it is true they will never find a system which suits everyone all the time.

"However, I think this calls for a little innovative thinking and for a healthy dose of common sense. There should be flexibility in the system for a much more locally driven solution and if that means using the new 'leave it with a neighbour' system as the first call with South Wonston Post Office as the fall-back, so be it.

"Making my constituents trek all the way into an already congested Winnall is neither helpful nor progress."
