Steve Brine has commented on news that Winchester is to benefit from £400,000 of work to the very busy M3 Junction 9 at Winnall, following a series of announcements from the Department for Transport (DfT).

The announcement, made by new Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin, sets out that the money will be spent on improving signage and lane markings around the hectic roundabout.

Steve Brine MP commented: "Since my election I have badgered Transport Ministers about this junction which causes my constituents a great many problems so any investment which eases congestion, and the knock-on effect that has for Winnall especially, is welcome but I very much see this as phase one of much wider works.

"I am due to meet the new Transport Secretary shortly and will be discussing junction 9 as well as the problem of surface noise from the M3 which impacts horribly in Winnall, Compton and down into Chandler's Ford."

In addition to Junction 9, improvement totalling nearly £7m will be spent on Junction 3 and Junction 5 of the M27, which will include widening slip road and installing traffic lights at Junction 3. Work on all three junctions is expected to have been completed by 2015.
