Gardens Weekly Ltd is a small business start up aimed at promoting horticultural learning and professional garden services, and Steve met the group of horticulturalists as they began the course with pencils and rulers establishing the boundary lines of a garden.
Organiser Pauline Weeks, a retired public sector worker, said: "This was a great start to the Gardens Weekly Design Course, with twelve horticultural types, sweating over scale rulers, surveyors tapes and graph paper and using words like Isosceles.
"It was superb to see local adult learners broadening their horizons and utilising excellent local authority facilities in Winchester."
Steve Brine said: "It was fascinating to see the start of this course for myself, and to be able to chat with organisers and learners alike.I basically grew up in the garden, helping either my parents or grandparents and have inherited their love for it.
"We have potential but at present an utterly blank canvass in the garden at home which is deliberate because I just don't have the time these days to give it the love required. I hope this course is a success and lasts a very long time, I have already put my name down the day after I retire!"
