Nuffield Health is the largest not-for-profit provider of healthcare in the UK, and has been for over 50 years. It is independent of government and has no shareholders, so reinvests all financial surplus for the benefit of its customers.
The Wessex Hospital has been a key part of the local community since its establishment in 1977. This latest multi million pound refurbishment has included the upgrading of patient bedrooms, creation of a new and enlarged reception area, installation of state of the art MRI and CT scanners, and the addition of an integrated digital operating theatre to provide top quality facilities for key-hole surgery.
The weekend's event allowed local GPs to see the improvements first hand, as well as attending a wide range of educational update talks delivered by consultant specialists throughout the day.
Steve Brine, MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford, toured the new hospital facilities and was guest of honour at the celebratory lunch. He said: "Last time I visited the Wessex Hospital they had big plans for these improvements and they've made them happen in fine style. The facilities here now are a tremendous resource for local GPs and commissioners.
"For me as a local MP, this is welcome investment in the local health economy and many NHS patients also benefit from this hospital which is great."
Hospital Director Peter Howgrave-Graham said: "Nuffield Health is committed to supporting GP learning and we were delighted so many local GPs attended the event. We were also very pleased to welcome local MP Steve Brine on the day.
"The hospital has been undergoing an extensive programme of works for the past 18 months and we are very proud of the 'new look' facilities that we are able to offer to our patients. The new hospital really supports Nuffield Health's aim to champion health as it should be."
