The Winchester MP has been working across the constituency, around the clock, helping residents, businesses and schools to problem-solve the dreadful recent floods, and he has been hugely impressed at the response of the local community as well as all the agencies which pulled together so successfully.
He said: "It goes without saying another major weather event is beyond anyone's control but we owe massive thanks to the teamwork which appears to have been so effective in dodging a bullet in Winchester city centre this past week.
"The multi-agency response from city, county, EA and the armed forces has allowed us to walk a really fine line and manage water levels in the most intelligent way possible. We're quick enough to always lay blame in this country but credit where it's due and in this instance it really is deserved."
The MP added that he would be briefing the COBRA team on the Winchester response to these floods so far so other areas could examine the approach taken.
