Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine dropped into Lakeside School on Winchester Road recently to congratulate School Council members who won a prestigious Princess Diana Award.
The MP met with pupils Alex Morris, Ben Franks, Jake Burdon and Alfie Tyson as well as Headteacher, Gareth Evans and member of staff, Kathryn Macgregor.
Over tea and biscuits, the pupils discussed the award gained through their work on anti-bullying and told the tale of their day in London to collect the award. Steve wanted to know all about Lakeside and what made it a Special School and students took the opportunity to ask a range of questions including whether we should trust what we read in the newspapers!
Headteacher Gareth Evans said: "This was an opportunity for a little extra recognition for pupils at Lakeside School, some of whom come from very disadvantaged backgrounds. Steve had also arranged for some pupils to visit the Houses of Parliament in January 2014 and he brought certificates for those who had been lucky to attend. This was a very lovely memento and added to a wonderful day at Lakeside School."
Steve Brine added: "This was my first visit to Lakeside as the MP and I will definitely be back as I'm fascinated by their work and want to know more. It was a pleasure to catch up with the lads and congratulate them on this prestigious award."
