With judging from the Oliver's Battery WI group and Cupcake Dolly, there was serious competition to become the event's star bakers. Children entered the cupcake category, submitting four decorated cupcakes; whilst the adults vied to win the accolade of best Victoria sponge.
Kate Fletcher, Committee Chair and organiser of the event, said: "Everyone who took part did a wonderful job and you could tell that they all really wanted to win. The children, in particular, created some very colourful and beautiful cupcakes and the whole thing looked amazing."
Steve Brine, MP, also attended the event and helped out in the grand prize raffle. He commented: "Everyone worked very hard to put on this event and clearly, from the fantastic sum raised, it has been a great success."
The bake-off was held to help raise funds for a much-needed new building for Oliver's Battery Pre-school. It is hoped that the spacious, purpose-built new premises will better cater to the children and their families in the surrounding area.
