To mark the week, One Community Carers Centre, based in Eastleigh, which runs information and support services for people looking after loved ones and amongst many other activities, ran another annual Carers Week Celebration Day which Chandler's Ford MP Steve Brine has attended for the last 4 years.
Lucy Sams, One Community Carers Centre Manager said: "Steve's presence on the day adds real value as it provides Carers with the opportunity to discuss anything from personal matters close to their heart, as well as general and local issues that make life more challenging.
"In turn, Steve was able to find out even more about carer issues in his constituency and deepen his knowledge and understanding of the difficulties they face.
"It is essential that in a time of lots of change and increasing pressures Carers feel their voices are heard and they are supported and valued and meeting with Steve is one of the important ways we can work to achieve this."
Every day 6,000 people take on new caring responsibilities. Becoming a carer can impact significantly on a person's life – it takes time, energy, can leave you isolated and can be costly.
Steve Brine said: "Once again, I was delighted to be able to come along, meet some constituents, and find out more about the issues carers face. I was able to pick up some important casework, and it was great to see so many faces, new and old, at this fantastic event."
