The local association of the British Federation of Women Graduates (BFWG) heard from their MP about 'life as a new boy' in the House of Commons, and the realities of juggling a job in Government with his work on various All Party Groups, his time on the Justice Select Committee, his constituency casework and balancing all that with a young family.
BFWG is an organisation of women with degrees or equivalent qualifications which promotes women's opportunities in education and public life, fosters local, national and international friendship, and works to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide.
In a special Q & A session afterwards, Steve was able to discuss the relationships he has with colleagues on both sides of the House, as well as challenging the perceptions created by some sections of the media about what politicians in Westminster actually do.
Speaking afterwards Steve said: "I really enjoy these events, which really give the opportunity to engage with constituents. I remember speaking to the group before I was elected and tonight was the fulfilment of a promise made back in 2010 to come back and tell the real story of life as a new boy in Westminster".
Christine Smith, WWG President, said "Steve's talk had been informative and entertaining, but most of all gave an insight into his work in the House of Commons".
