Winchester city centre has a new nursery, with the opening of the Yellow Dot nursery on Wales Street.

The nursery, which has opened at the site of the old Ship Inn, is the eleventh location for the popular organisation, and Steve Brine was on-hand to cut the ribbon.

Around £400,000 was spent on renovating the building, including the replacement of every wall and ceiling due to a large beetle infestation, and following months of restoration work the building is now of open and boasts big rooms with many of the building's original features.

Steve Brine said: "We all remember this building when it was the Ship Inn but that had really fallen out of use and it's fantastic to see it reborn as such a valued community asset, an ambition they told me about when I opened their Otterbourne site in 2012.

"This area of Winchester is changing so I am already working with my colleague Cllr Fiona Mather around issues to do with the safety of young children and mums crossing the road here. As a young parent myself I know how important it is to have safe and reliable child care."
