Shapla in Alresford has been nominated by Steve Brine MP to take part in the prestigious Tiffin Cup, a competition to find the best South Asian restaurant in the country.

The Tiffin Cup is now in its 11th year, and last year MPs nominated over 120 restaurants across the country. The Cup is awarded by the Tiffin Club, formed in 2006 by former MP John Barrett alongside Michael Fabricant MP and Keith Vaz MP. The aim is not only to applaud the quality of South Asian food in Britain but also raise much-needed money for charity, with the beneficiaries this year including World Vision and Water Aid.

Chairman of the Tiffin Club, Keith Vaz, said: "After the overwhelming success of last year's competition we are looking forward to another chance to sample some of the best offerings of Indian food in Britain. I wish Shapla the best of luck in the competition!"

Steve Brine said: "I'm delighted the Shapla nomination has been accepted to proceed in this year's contest. This is such a prestigious competition which we've done well in before and I look forward to welcoming Moon and the Shapla team to the House of Commons if they are successful in their regional heat."

The Grand Final is to be held in Parliament on Tuesday 12th July.
