A Memory Walk to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society will take place in Winchester on Saturday 8th October.

Memory Walks see thousands of people raising money for a world without dementia across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. People of all ages and abilities join in, from grandparents to grandchildren, and even furry four-legged friends. Participants all walk together to celebrate loved ones affected by dementia, and raise money to reclaim the future.

Local walker Darren Fearnley told Steve: "The event will be very poignant for my family as my mother in law recently passed away at Westholme care home in Winchester.

"My mother also had dementia and she passed away in April 2014, while my grandfather died from the disease in December 1995.

"While there is more information available about Alzheimer's Disease out there now than ever before, many people still don't appreciate the effect it has on both people living with the illness and their families.

"That's why memory walks are so important in getting people to share their experiences and, in doing so, raising awareness of the condition."
