Steve Brine is backing a "brilliant idea" which is being driven forward by an enthusiast local Winchester resident.

The JDryer, developed by Winchester resident Juliet Howland, is a new, simple and eco-friendly space-saving clothes drying rack, which provides over 3 metres of drying space. Juliet, who is passionate about prison reform, plans to work with the enthusiastic prison estate to develop the manufacturing side of the business.

She said: "I've met with the head of industry at HMP Winchester, and have sessions with the UK Director of Prison Industries and Ford Open Prison in the pipeline.

"I am very passionate about this product and the response has been amazing. The prison service have been fantastic with their enthusiasm, and the plan is for Winchester to do the assembly and packing, with Ford and other prisons involved in the manufacturing."

Steve Brine said: "This is a brilliant idea on so many levels. As a product it is so smart, but Juliet's plan really offers something else as we both share a passion for rehabilitation.

"I know she is in touch with the Howard League, who I know well from my days on the Justice Select Committee, and I've pledged to back this exciting initiative by using my position working within Government to put this in front of the Ministry of Justice.

"As with any business venture, it won't be straightforward, but I am very proud to be supporting Juliet here and I am sure this has the potential to positively change lives, as well as being a brilliant product in its own right."
