Steve Brine dropped into Western Primary School, in the heart of Fulflood, on Friday 8th June.
The Winchester MP discussed school funding and admissions, before taking a look around and meeting a number of staff and children.
Given his role in Government as the Public Health Minister, he was especially keen to hear about plans to start the Golden Mile at the school and a new specially constructed track through the school grounds where the daily activity will take place.
He was also shown the new play equipment funded using Sport Premium money.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Brine said; "Western is a fabulous school with a lovely feel to it. They are achieving excellent results but they are also doing so much else around the children's health and wellbeing. It was especially interesting for me to see the excellent use they are making of the Sport Premium funding which comes from the Sugar Tax. I am really proud we're doing that.
"The new play equipment looks brilliant, and is a real legacy investment from what is a very forward-looking headteacher and governing body led so well by Sarah Gooding."
