Local MP Steve Brine paid a visit to Itchen Abbas Primary School today to chat with the Headteacher and spend time meeting the school council.
The school, based in Itchen Abbas between Winchester and Alresford, is one of the smallest schools in Steve's constituency and the MP wanted to make time to meet with Head Aimee Dear to discuss school funding and many of the challenges faced by small rural schools.
After that he met with this year's school council, made of children from across the year groups, to answer their questions and hear about their plans for the year ahead.
Steve says; "Itchen Abbas is a lovely school and always warm and friendly to visit. It was so useful chat with Mrs Dear and to hear some of the issues she faces at the current time and I will be reporting back what she told me to Education Ministers because it's essential they hear from the front-line of small rural primary schools.
"I loved my time with the school council as well and, as usual, there was a wide range of questions as well as things they wanted to tell me including news of the new school friendship bench which they're clearly very excited about."
