There was a D-Day theme to MP Steve Brine's visit to Winchester College today.
The Winchester & Chandler's Ford MP dropped in to meet with Headmaster, Dr Tim Hands, and chat with some of the 6th form boys who will shortly leave the College.
He also visited the Fellows' Library to see an exhibition of D-Day charts, documents and photographs. No-one is sure how the documents came to be at Winchester but it's thought possible many were used aboard the HMS Warspite aboard which the Wykehamist AS Mackintosh served.
Among the memorabilia on display are various pieces of Nazi history including flags and tiny pocket guides given to members of the Hitler Youth movement.
Steve Brine said; "I always enjoy visiting Winchester College and chatting with Dr Hands who is a truly inspirational and transformative Headmaster. The boys we met, over their Friday morning tea and buns, were keen to hear about the current leadership content taking place within the Conservative Party.
"And it was of course fascinating to see the D-Day exhibition this week of all weeks'. It reminded us once again what an incredible undertaking it was and, even today, the Nazi icons on display were truly chilling."
