A long-running campaign has borne fruit as Wales Street will get its zebra crossing at last, after years of campaigning.
Conservative run Hampshire County Council has appointed Colas Ltd to install a zebra crossing outside the F.I.L.O pub site - and resurface the road.
Local MP Steve Brine said: “This campaign has run and run for a number of years and involved many people locally.
“New development in the area, lots of young families and a nursery nearby - plus a very busy student site just up the road - helped us get this over the line to great relief. Thank you to Cllr Humby and HCC for listening and responding and special mention to former County Cllr for the area, Fiona Mather, who worked over many years to make the case for this crossing.”
The work will take place outside the ‘First In Last Out’ and is being undertaken during the school summer holidays to minimise disruption. Work will stop to enable traffic to flow freely to and from the Boomtown music festival.
Construction is planned to start on Monday, 29 July 2019 and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, 20 August 2019, weather permitting.
